Universal Studios Florida is preparing to say goodbye to one of the few attractions that has been part of the theme park since the very beginning.Animal Actors on Location! will permanently close later this year, bringing an end to a run that stretches all the way back to Universal Studios Florida’s opening year. The final performance is scheduled for November 2, 2026. Once that last show ends, the attraction will officially close after more than 36 years of entertaining Universal Orlando guests. But Universal isn’t simply closing the theater and leaving it behind. The company has confirmed that the longtime attraction is making way for a future experience, meaning another significant change is officially coming to Universal Studios Florida. For now, however, Universal isn’t ready to reveal exactly what that replacement will be.Animal Actors on Location! Is Closing PermanentlyAnimal Actors on Location! has survived an enormous amount of change at Universal Studios Florida. The show originally debuted on June 7, 1990, under the name Animal Actors Stage. That means it has been around since the opening year of Universal Studios Florida and has entertained guests through multiple generations of the resort.Over the years, the attraction changed names several times. It became Animal Planet Live in 2001 before eventually becoming Animal Actors on Location! in 2006.Despite those changes, the basic concept remained familiar to longtime Universal visitors. The attraction offered guests a chance to watch trained animals perform while getting a behind-the-scenes look at how animal performers could be used in movies and television. It was a very different experience from the roller coasters, simulators, and heavily themed dark rides that have increasingly become the centerpiece of Universal’s theme parks. That difference helped Animal Actors stick around for decades. Now, its lengthy run is almost over.Universal has announced that the final performance will take place on Monday, November 2. After that performance, Animal Actors on Location! will permanently disappear from the Universal Studios Florida attraction lineup.Another Piece of Opening-Day Universal Is DisappearingThe closure carries a little more significance because of just how old Animal Actors on Location! is.It isn’t simply another attraction that has been operating for a decade or two.Animal Actors is currently one of only three opening-day attractions remaining at Universal Studios Florida. The other two are E.T. Adventure and Universal Orlando’s Horror Make-Up Show, although the latter has experienced several changes over the years and is currently undergoing a major update.Credit: UniversalThat puts Animal Actors in increasingly rare company.Universal Studios Florida has changed dramatically since opening in 1990. Attractions that once defined the park have disappeared one after another as Universal has introduced newer franchises and more ambitious experiences.Jaws is gone. Back to the Future: The Ride is gone. Kongfrontation is gone. Twister…Ride It Out is gone.More recently, Universal has continued making major changes to the park as it looks toward its next era.Animal Actors managed to survive all of those transformations.By November, that will no longer be the case. Its closure will leave even fewer pieces of the original Universal Studios Florida for guests who remember what the park looked like during its earliest years.Universal Acknowledges the Attraction’s Long HistoryUniversal isn’t ignoring the significance of the closure.Adam Kingsley, Vice President of Park Operations – North Campus, has a particularly interesting connection to Animal Actors. Kingsley began his Universal Orlando career 30 years ago as an attendant at the attraction. In Universal’s announcement, Kingsley acknowledged how much Animal Actors has meant to both Team Members and guests over the years. Universal also expressed gratitude toward the employees who helped make the attraction such a longtime part of the park. That history helps explain why this closure feels different from a more routine attraction replacement. For plenty of Universal visitors, Animal Actors might not be the first attraction they rush toward after entering the park. It isn’t a massive roller coaster or a technologically advanced attraction with enormous wait times. But it has been there for 36 years.Parents who saw the show as children have been able to return and experience it with their own kids. Team Members have spent years working inside the theater. And through multiple eras of Universal Studios Florida, the show remained part of the park. That longevity is about to end.The Surrounding Area Has Already ChangedThe closure also makes sense when looking at what has happened around Animal Actors during the past several years. The attraction was previously considered part of Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone. That entire section of Universal Studios Florida underwent a major transformation, with much of Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone closing and eventually being replaced by DreamWorks Land in 2024.Credit: UniversalInterestingly, Animal Actors survived that project. While much of the surrounding area changed, Universal kept the longtime show operating. The attraction’s webpage still lists it as KidZone, while Universal Orlando’s app currently places Animal Actors in the Hollywood section of the park. Its location now makes the future particularly interesting.Universal has several directions it could potentially take with this property. What Could Replace Animal Actors? This is where things become much less certain.Universal has confirmed that Animal Actors on Location! is making way for a future experience, but the company has not announced exactly what that experience will be.That distinction is important. There is officially a replacement project coming, but there isn’t an officially announced theme or attraction attached to the space yet.Credit: UniversalBased on the theater’s location, there are several possibilities. A future experience could potentially connect with DreamWorks Land, the Hollywood area, or even the nearby Springfield section of Universal Studios Florida. For now, those possibilities remain speculation rather than confirmed plans.Universal has only said that more information about the future of the space will be shared later.Still, the decision to permanently close Animal Actors makes it clear that Universal sees another use for this valuable section of the park. And that could make this closure worth watching well beyond November.Universal Studios Florida Continues to EvolveAnimal Actors is also disappearing during an interesting period for Universal Orlando Resort.Epic Universe is now open and operating, but Universal isn’t finished making changes to its existing parks.Universal Studios Florida, in particular, continues to evolve. The retirement of a 36-year-old attraction gives Universal another opportunity to rethink part of its original theme park rather than simply maintaining something because it has always been there. That doesn’t necessarily mean a massive attraction will replace Animal Actors.Universal hasn’t provided enough information to know the scale of the project. The future experience could be another live show, something connected to DreamWorks, or an entirely different concept.Whatever Universal chooses, though, the company has officially put another piece of the park’s original lineup on the clock.Guests Still Have Time to See the ShowThe good news for longtime fans is that Animal Actors isn’t disappearing immediately. With its final performance scheduled for November 2, guests still have some time to visit Universal Studios Florida and experience the show before it closes permanently. That could make the remaining performances especially meaningful for Universal fans who grew up with the attraction. There have been countless closures throughout Universal Studios Florida’s history, but there aren’t many opening-day experiences left to lose.Credit: UniversalAnimal Actors on Location! has lasted through changing park identities, new lands, demolished attractions, new franchises, and multiple generations of Universal Orlando vacations.Soon, it will join the growing list of original Universal experiences that exist only in memories, photos, and old vacation videos. And once the theater goes dark after its final performance, attention will immediately turn toward the bigger question. What is Universal planning to put there? We don’t have that answer yet. What we do know is that Universal Studios Florida is preparing to close another piece of its original 1990 lineup, and the company has already confirmed that the space has a future. After 36 years, Animal Actors on Location! will take its final bow on November 2.Then, another Universal Studios Florida transformation can begin. The post After 30+ Years, Universal Studios Announces Permanent Orlando Closure appeared first on Inside the Magic.
