In total, the man stole 75 items worth HK$12,905, including plush toys, headbands, handbags, card holders, and keychains. All of the stolen merchandise was later recovered.Defendant Zhou Chao, a visitor from mainland China, said he had previously worked as a teacher for around 10 years but had been unemployed for two months. His defense blamed “momentary greed” for the thefts (via Headline Daily). He was ultimately fined HK$10,000 ($1,275 USD), while the stolen merchandise was valued at HK$12,905 (roughly $1,645 USD).Pattern of Theft at DisneyThe Hong Kong Disneyland case is not the park’s only recent theft allegation. In June, a 46-year-old primary school teacher pleaded not guilty to stealing HK$3,553 ($453 USD) worth of merchandise from a Main Street store in March 2025, including keychains, hats, a hoodie, bags, and a card holder.In March 2026, police arrested 28 Shanghai Disneyland Annual Passholders after reviewing CCTV footage and identifying three alleged theft rings. In April, a 52-year-old guest was accused of allowing her juvenile daughter to steal dozens of Disney pins. Deputies said the pair had more than $2,000 in merchandise; Perez pleaded not guilty to grand theft and contributing to a minor’s delinquency.Two months later, a former Disney’s Animal Kingdom cast member was arrested after allegedly taking 100 items worth a total of $2,193 from World of Disney. Authorities said she left the store, changed her shirt and hairstyle, and was later identified by employees.
