A tiny hedgehog who weighed just 26 grams when he first arrived in care has officially returned to the wild after weeks of rehabilitation in Malta. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta)Hobbes was taken in by Nature Trust – FEE Malta at the beginning of July, when he was described as tiny, fragile and unable to survive independently.The young hoglet spent his first crucial weeks with a foster volunteer, receiving regular feeds and care until he was strong enough to move to the organisation’s rehabilitation centre.Weeks later, Hobbes had grown into a strong and curious young hedgehog and was finally ready to be released.Nature Trust said he was released shortly before sunset, wasting little time before heading off to explore his new surroundings among the pine needles and leaves.“Sometimes the happiest endings are the ones that walk away from us,” the organisation wrote while sharing the successful release.Nature Trust reminded the public that the wild animals it rescues are protected species and cannot legally be harmed or kept as pets in Malta.Anyone who comes across injured or endangered wildlife is encouraged to contact the Wildlife Rescue Team Malta on 99999505.Who else loves seeing little rescue stories like Hobbes’ end this way?Facebook video: Nature Trust•
