A colt by Mucho Macho Man (hip 131) topped the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society's Yearling Sale when bringing a final bid of C$140,000 from K & J Bloodstock, as agent for Al and Bill Ulwelling Wednesday at the Woodbine Sales Pavilion. The yearling was bred by Phoenix Rising Farms and was consigned by Susan Y. Foreman, agent. He is out of Ghost Painter (Munnings), a half-sister to stakes winner Friendly Ghost (Outwork). The Ulwellings, who won the 2025 King's Plate with Mansetti (Collected), also purchased a colt by Reload (hip 70) for C$27,000 at Wednesday's auction.Nine yearlings sold for six figures during the one-session sale. Julia Carey purchased the auction's top-priced filly, going to C$130,000 for a yearling from the first crop of Loggins (hip 157). Bred by Mark Dodson and consigned by Shannondoe Farm, the chestnut is out of Leona Vander (GB) (The Last Lion). Late in the auction, a colt by Yorkton (hip 196) matched that C$130,000 price tag when selling to Sue Leslie. Consigned by Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency, the yearling is out of Piper's Legacy (Silent Name {Jpn}) and is a full-brother to multiple stakes winner Piper's Gift. He was bred by Chiefswood Stables LimitedBloodstock agent Joe Migliore was also on Wednesday's results sheets, going to C$65,000 to acquire a filly by Souper Speedy (hip 33) on behalf of Matt Cutair's New York-based Adelphi Racing Club and Steve Rocco's LJSS Thoroughbreds.Migliore confirmed it was his first time shopping at the Canadian sale and he said that the newly created Empire Trillium Series was the main impetus for the trip.“With the impending arrival of the Empire Trillium series, we felt it was worth exploring the Ontario-bred sale,” Migliore told TDN. “The CTHS was incredibly accommodating and put on a fantastic sale. The market was competitive and we tried on several, but we were very happy with the one filly we bought.
