Scientists created an artificial drought in the Amazon rainforest for over two decades. Initially resilient, the forest lost significant biomass and large trees over time. The ecosystem then stabilized, but as a less dense and carbon-rich forest. This adaptation occurred after substantial ecological changes and biomass reduction. The experiment shows survival does not always mean full recovery for the forest.
