Malta has been reacting to the dramatic conclusion of Yorgen Fenech’s trial, after jurors found him not guilty by an 8-1 majority on both charges he faced in connection with Daphne Caruana Galizia’s assassination.The verdict brought the 55-day trial to an end on Wednesday evening, with Fenech walking free from court after consistently denying the charges against him.Nearly nine years after Caruana Galizia was assassinated, the verdict has prompted renewed calls for answers and accountability.PN MEP Peter Agius summed up one of the central questions: “So who killed Daphne?? Almost nine years have passed and we remain without an answer.”Fellow PN MEP David Casa described the result as “catastrophic for Malta” and a “devastating victory for impunity”, while insisting the fight for truth and justice would continue.Meanwhile, Momentum leader Arnold Cassola called for further investigations into people who may have been involved in what the party described as the “wider conspiracy” surrounding the assassination, specifically raising allegations concerning Keith Schembri and Joseph Muscat.Caruana Galizia’s sister Corinne Vella also called for accountability, writing: “Many people are angry and want to know what to do.You can demand accountability,” before raising a series of questions surrounding evidence, witnesses and the case.Moviment Graffitti activist Andre Callus expressed deep frustration following the verdict, describing what he saw as serious injustice in Malta.Pn MP Eve Borg Bonello, meanwhile, turned her attention to Caruana Galizia herself.“Daphne did and still deserves justice.
