The late Omukama of Tooro, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, will be laid to rest on September 12, 2026, a date that will mark exactly 31 years since his coronation.The burial arrangements were confirmed on Wednesday evening by the Office of the Omujwera Musuuga, the head of the royal Babiito clan, which also announced changes to the protocol for transporting the fallen monarch’s body to Tooro.The King’s body is expected to arrive at Entebbe International Airport on Friday, September 4, where President Yoweri Museveni is expected to receive it and pay his last respects. The remains will then be airlifted by a military helicopter to Kyegegwa District.From Kyegegwa, the body will be placed on an open, slow-moving vehicle for a road procession through Kyegegwa, Kyenjojo and Kabarole districts before proceeding to Fort Portal City and the Karuziika Palace.Fr Charles Oyo, Head of Communications in the Office of the Omujwera Musuuga, said the change from the earlier plan to fly the body directly from Entebbe to Karuziika Palace follows numerous requests from Tooro subjects who want an opportunity to pay their final respects along the Mubende-Fort Portal highway.“Many people have requested an opportunity to bid farewell to the King as the body is in transit,” Fr Oyo said, explaining that security teams will guide mourners along the route.Grace Nakimera’s plan to mix secular hits with gospel at upcoming concertHe clarified that the procession will move slowly to allow people to wave and pay homage, but there will not be multiple stops for public viewing.The body is not going to stop in so many places to be viewed, but it will be on the van moving at a slow pace so that people are able either to wave or do whatever they want.Fr Oyo appealed to mourners to remain calm and disciplined throughout the procession, saying their conduct should reflect the values and heritage of the Batooro.We expect there will be a big number of people on the way. We appeal to them to keep calm, but also demonstrate who we are as the people of Tooro. The people of Tooro are always calm and friendly.Upon arrival at Karuziika Palace, the official nine-day cultural mourning period will begin.
