A search and rescue operation was launched in the Blue Grotto area after five swimmers became lost at sea.Rescuers from Civil Protection Department fire stations 1, 5 and 8 were deployed to the area following the incident.Three of the swimmers managed to make their own way safely back to shore, while the remaining two had to be rescued by CPD personnel.The pair were brought aboard CPD Delta 2 before being transferred safely back to land.A medical team from Mater Dei Hospital’s Emergency Department assessed the swimmers at the scene. All were subsequently discharged without needing to be taken to hospital.The Malta Police Force and Armed Forces of Malta also assisted throughout the operation.Well done to everyone involved in bringing the swimmers safely back to shore.•
