Socialite Kirumira Bryan, popularly known as Bryan White, has been granted mandatory bail by the High Court in Kampala after spending 293 days on remand over charges including alleged human sacrifice, manslaughter and possession of a narcotic drug.Justice Gadenya Paul Wolimbwa ordered Kirumira’s release on a cash bail of Shs10 million, ruling that he had spent far beyond the constitutionally prescribed 180 days on remand without being committed to the High Court for trial.Kirumira was arrested on November 13, 2025, and had since been detained at Upper Prison, Luzira. By the time of the ruling, he had spent 293 days in custody, which was 113 days beyond the constitutional period within which he should have been released on mandatory bail.The socialite was brought to court under prison escort as his bail application came to a conclusion. After Deputy Registrar Samuel Twakyire read the ruling on behalf of Justice Wolimbwa, Kirumira appeared surprised by the development.“It is not that I am not hearing, but it is as if I have not been granted bail. It is like I am not understanding,” Kirumira said, expressing his apparent disbelief at the Shs10 million cash bail order.Justice Wolimbwa held that Kirumira had satisfied the requirements for mandatory bail because he was facing an offence triable only by the High Court, had spent more than 180 days on remand and had not yet been committed for trial.The judge emphasised that mandatory bail is a constitutional entitlement rather than a discretionary favour from court. The prosecution had opposed his release, citing the seriousness of the charges, possible interference with witnesses and the possibility that he could abscond.Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court further remands Bryan White, wife over alleged ritual murder of Caroline NalubwamaHowever, Justice Wolimbwa ruled that the seriousness of the allegations could not override a constitutional right to mandatory bail once the required period had elapsed. He said concerns raised by the prosecution could instead be addressed through strict bail conditions.Kirumira faces six charges, including human sacrifice, manslaughter, rash and negligent acts, possession of a narcotic drug, conspiracy to commit a felony and giving false information.The human sacrifice charge carries a maximum penalty of death and is therefore triable only by the High Court.The charges stem from the death of 25-year-old Carol Nalubwama, who allegedly sustained severe burn injuries at Kirumira’s residence in Kyamula, Makindye Division, before later dying at Kiruddu Hospital.Kirumira’s release on mandatory bail does not amount to an acquittal, and the charges against him remain pending as the case proceeds through the judicial process.The post High Court orders release of Bryan White on Shs10 million cash bail appeared first on MBU.
