Mathis Albert got the nod in Borussia Dortmund’s DFB Pokal trip to HEBC Hamburg and the 17-year-old did not disappoint.Albert delivered a strong 90-minute shift in Dortmund’s 5-0 road victory over their lower-league opponents. The U.S. Men’s National Team prospect registered three shots on target, completed three dribbles, won five duels, and drew two fouls. Despite not finding the back of the net, Albert showed plenty of promise as Niko Kovac’s squad advanced to the second round of the tournament. Albert is expected to stay with Dortmund’s first team this season, giving the dynamic attacker plenty of chances to earn minutes. Borussia Dortmund has four matches to go until the September-October international break, starting with a trip to Hoffenheim in Bundesliga play on Saturday.Elsewhere, Aidan Morris scored his first goal for Middlesbrough, finishing off a Sebastian Berhalter assist against Burnley. Naomi Girma, Alyssa Thompson and Chelsea advanced to the UEFA Women’s Champions League proper.
