An 8-1 majority has found Yorgen Fenech not guilty of both charges he faced in connection with the murder of investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, bringing one of the most closely followed trials in Malta’s history to a dramatic conclusion.Jurors found Fenech not guilty of complicity in Caruana Galizia’s murder by a vote of 8-1. They also found him not guilty of criminal association, again by an 8-1 vote.The verdicts were delivered following jury deliberations on Wednesday, after Judge Edwina Grima sent the jurors out at the end of her address.Fenech had consistently denied both charges in connection with the murder of Caruana Galizia, who was killed by a car bomb on 16th October 2017.More details to follow.The verdict comes on the 55th day of Fenech’s trial, during which jurors heard extensive evidence and testimony surrounding the assassination of Caruana Galizia, who was killed by a car bomb on 16th October 2017.Fenech, who also took the witness stand during the trial, had consistently denied complicity and conspiracy charges in connection with the murder.More details to follow.•
