Prime Minister Robert Abela has challenged Opposition leader Alex Borg to substantiate his claim that the plot to assassinate Daphne Caruana Galizia was concocted inside Castille.Speaking during an urgent parliamentary debate following Yorgen Fenech’s acquittal, Abela turned his attention to comments Borg made outside Castille on Wednesday night, when the PN leader pointed towards the building and declared that the murder had been “planned in here”.Borg made the claim while addressing demonstrators following Fenech’s acquittal, which saw a jury find him not guilty of complicity in Caruana Galizia’s murder and criminal association by eight votes to one on both charges.Abela urged the Opposition leader to sustain the serious allegation when he addresses Parliament.The Prime Minister also stressed that he would not give his personal opinion on the jury’s verdict, maintaining the cautious approach he has adopted since Wednesday’s decision amid the possibility of further judicial proceedings.He contrasted this with the Opposition’s reaction to the verdict and referred to comments made by members of the Caruana Galizia family.Abela also reiterated his backing for Malta’s institutions to continue investigating matters arising from the assassination case, urging politicians and the public not to say or do anything that could obstruct or prejudice ongoing processes.The urgent parliamentary sitting was called after Borg formally requested that Parliament be reconvened despite currently being in its summer recess.What do you make of Abela’s challenge to the Opposition leader?•
