The Opposition has tried to file a motion in Parliament calling for the recommendations of the Daphne Caruana Galizia Public Inquiry to be discussed, but the government has refused to allow the motion to be debated during today’s urgent sitting.The move came as Parliament continues its extraordinary debate following Yorgen Fenech’s acquittal in the Caruana Galizia murder trial.Opposition leader Alex Borg had already announced that the PN would table the Public Inquiry recommendations during today’s sitting, alongside proposals for legislative changes.However, after the Opposition attempted to have its motion discussed immediately, the government did not agree to debate it during the current session.The motion is expected to be discussed at a later stage, while today’s debate on the fallout from the Fenech verdict will continue as planned.The development came shortly after Prime Minister Robert Abela concluded his address, during which he said he has full confidence in Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà to investigate leads emerging from the trial and appealed for Malta’s institutions to be allowed to work.More updates as the parliamentary debate continues.•
