On the GI Pacific Classic undercard, several horses left their marks, including Tam Tam (Medaglia d'Oro), a 3-year old filly who added a Grade I to her resume with a gutsy win in the Del Mar Oaks.“We felt like we had some fillies the last few years with Grade I talent and we just couldn't get it done,” trainer Phil Bauer said. “Glad we could get the tag next her name.”She grabbed the lead midstretch and held on to beat 40-1 longshot Lookin At Diamond (Lookin At Lucky) by 1 1/4 lengths. Race favorite and pacesetter Kensington Lane (Ire) (Starspanglebanner {Aus}) faded to third followed by the other European invader Green Carrera (GB).Bauer indicated Tam Tam will ship back to Kentucky on Tuesday and most likely point to the GI Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Keeneland Oct. 10.Saturday's GII Green Flash winner Sorrento Sky (Ire) (Prince of Lir {Ire}), who got up late to the Breeders' Cup 'Win and You're In' test for the Turf Sprint at Keeneland this fall, will have to be nominated to the World Championships if his connections decide to run.“He's not Breeders' Cup nominated,” D'Amato confirmed. “But we're going to look at making him eligible. We'll come up with a game plan in the next week or so.”D'Amato is also weighing option for Motorious (GB) (Muhaarar {GB}), fourth as the favorite in the Green Flash. The 8-year-old gelding won the Green Flash on three prior occasions (2023-35) for D'Amato.“He just took the worst at the gate,” D'Amato explained. “He was the first to load in the gate then the horse broke through and he sat in there forever. He was the last horse they took out and he got anxious a little bit. Then he was the first to go back in on the reload. I think he just kind of unraveled a little bit in that situation and that cost him a little bit of the energy he needed.”According to D'Amato, the gelding may make another run at the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint. Fifth in 2023 and 2025, he was a neck second in the 2024 renewal at Del Mar.“We're going to give him one more chance to try to get in (to the Breeders' Cup), D'Amato stated. “There's a couple more “Win and You're In” options.”The post Tam Tam to Point to QEII Cup, Sorrento Sky Likely to be Nominated to Breeders’ Cup appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
