Shooting to win his third straight Grade I race and cement his status as the top 3-year-old male in training, Golden Tempo (Curlin) will face nine rivals in Saturday's GI Travers Stakes at Saratoga. At Sunday's draw, the winner of the GI Kentucky Derby and GI Belmont Stakes was assigned the nine post and was made the 5-2 morning line favorite.“My horse has no speed, so I don't worry about the post position,” Golden Tempo's rider Jose Ortiz said. “We have a good post. My horse is doing great, and that's the main thing. I have been very happy with him. His last work was an easy maintenance half-mile and he did it the right way. I have confidence in him. He is a very nice horse. The horse changed a lot when we put the blinkers on him. He has proven that he is getting better and better.”Renegade (Into Mischief), who was second in the Derby, third in the Belmont and then won the GII Jim Dandy Stakes, drew post five and was made the second choice at 3-1. As expected, Tyler Gaffalione was named to ride him. He will replace Irad Ortiz Jr., who is still sidelined with a foot injury and will miss the remainder of the Saratoga meet. The two horses likely to vie for the early lead drew next to one another. Leading Change (Gun Runner), who prompted the pace in his win in the GIII Indiana Derby, will break from post two with Manny Franco aboard. The Indiana Derby was just the second career start for the Brad Cox-trained colt. GI Preakness Stakes winner Napoleon Solo (Liam's Map) drew post three. He was second early in the Preakness before winning by 1 1/4 lengths and led in the GI Haskell Stakes before finishing second.Paco Lopez, who rode Napoleon Solo in his Preakness win and was again the pilot in the GI Haskell Stakes, has been replaced by John Velazquez. Lopez will be aboard Haskell winner Baby Vino (Vino Rosso).Trainer Chad Brown, who will be seeking his first winner in the Travers will send out two horses, GII Louisiana Derby winner Emerging Market (Candy Ride ({Arg}), who will be ridden by Ricardo Santana Jr. He may have a better chance with the improving Sea Strike (Midshipman). The colt is coming off an 8 1/4-length win in the Curlin Stakes. Flavien Part will ride and Sea Strike was made the third choice in the line at 5-1.The post Golden Tempo Draws Post 9 for Travers, Installed the 5-2 Morning Line Favorite appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
