A serious and potentially fatal condition has seen a major spike in teens and adults who regularly use cannabis. As The Hill reported on Saturday, a recent report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that “scromiting” in the United States has become more prevalent among younger marijuana users.Scromiting is social media slang for the condition’s real name, Cannabis (or cannabinoid) hyperemesis syndrome (CHS). As the Jackson Health System notes, CHS happens when repeated cannabis use affects the body’s normal ability to regulate nausea, triggering ongoing nausea, severe stomach pain, and uncontrollable vomiting. The spike is happening all across the country, as The Hill reports:Virginia authorities reported that emergency department visits for CHS have jumped almost 29% since 2020. Significant spikes have also been reported in Massachusetts, Northern California, and parts of North Carolina. An official at Duke Regional Hospital in Durham, North Carolina, said last summer that patients with CHS are seen “every week, if not every day.” From January 2023 to September 2025, patients between the ages of 15 and 24 had the highest average proportion of monthly emergency department visits at nearly 10 per 10,000. After the diagnostic code for CHS was introduced back in October, the CDC found that the rate jumped to nearly 39 per 10,000. The next–highest age group, 25- to 34-year-olds, had a rate of 28 per 10,000.For comparison, the national average rate was 3.19 per 10,000 between 2023 and 2025. It jumped to nearly 12 per 10,000 in the eight months after the WHO’s update, the CDC determinedThe Hill notes that CHS was first discovered in Australia two decades ago. The term “scromiting” comes from the intense pain and vomiting associated with the condition. In rare cases, the condition can be fatal. Hot showers can treat the condition, but the best way to combat it is to stop use of cannabis immediately. The Cleveland Clinic recommends individuals suffering from CHS to call 911 or go to the nearest hospital if they experience the following symptoms:•Dark or very little pee.•Delirium (sudden confusion).•Dizziness.•Fatigue or unexplained sleepiness.•Quickened heart rate.•Rapid breathing.•Syncope (fainting). The post YIKES: Alarming, Potentially Fatal Condition Known as “Scromiting” Surging In Teen and Young Adult Cannabis Users appeared first on The Gateway Pundit.
