Baker Mayfield may be entering the 2026 NFL season without a new contract, but he has reunited with some members of his family. The veteran Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback will play out the final year of his three-year, $100 million deal with the team after his self-imposed deadline to get an extension done was not met.Mayfield will play the 2026 NFL season and see out his current contractGettyIn his three seasons in Tampa, the 31-year-old has completed 66.3 percent of his passes for 12,237 passing yards and 95 touchdowns to just 37 interceptions. Earning both of his Pro Bowl nods while under center for the Bucs, Mayfield led the team to the NFL postseason in each of his first two seasons for the team – and you would think is the ideal man to take them forward. The Bucs fell narrowly short of making the playoffs in the 2025 season after losing a three-way tiebreaker to NFC South divisional rivals Carolina Panthers in the last game of the regular season. Mulling over what could have been, the setback of missing the playoffs was very ‘frustrating’ for the former No. 1 overall pick. Also, for them to have two grandbabies, it’s tough. What’s in the past is in the past. “Emily and I took (Kova) down right around her first birthday. … First time they met her, and you [could] tell it just melted them.“You can’t put yourself on a pedestal and act like I haven’t made mistakes in my life.“I had the ability to forgive, and that was what I wanted to get across. But we’re here, and the door is open. The past few months, we have made good progress and began reconnecting.”Mayfield and his wife Emily sued his family after money went missing from their accountsGettyMayfield has reunited with his family after a fall out over financesGettyFall-out over disappearance of $12 millionMayfield and his wife Emily had lost touch with his family over the years after things had soured when it was revealed that money from their accounts had been unknowingly funnelled into businesses belonging to the quarterback’s father and brother between 2018 and 2021.This resulted in a settlement with Camwood Capital Management Group – founded by Mayfield’s father James – with them ordered to repay the $11.741 million owed in full, along with additional interest, after being found guilty of transferring funds without the Mayfields’ consent. That wasn’t the end of the saga, though, as another lawsuit followed in 2024 when Mayfield’s camp made accusations that the court-ordered agreement had not been fulfilled. “To date, Camwood Capital has not repaid even one dollar under the Settlement Agreement,” the 2024 lawsuit stated, with Mayfield’s company Team BRM suing for breach of settlement. This case would go on to be voluntarilty dismissed on March 11, 2025, around a month before Mayfield began repairing his relationship with his family. But now a father of two, having welcomed Maverick to the world in April, to join daughter Kova, things now look very different for Mayfield and his family. With his relationship still in the process of being fully repaired, not having the dispute as an off-field distraction could positively impact Mayfield going into the 2026 season, even without his long-term future secured.  “I would’ve been fine regardless,” Mayfield said of the deadline he put on contract extension negotiations. “I didn’t want that to be the daily topic for the team that’s always looming. We have a good chance to fly under the radar and be really, really good.”
