You can credit Hailey Bieber’s beauty brand, Rhode, with the popularization of “glazed donut” skin, and since it launched in 2022, the brand has wormed its way into the broader cultural conversation, spawning memes, promoting new products with Claudia Schiffer and Harris Dickinson, and even inspiring song lyrics. The company was acquired by E.L.F. Beauty in May 2025 with just 10 makeup and skin-care products. Shortly after the acquisition, Rhode, which was previously available only on its website, launched in Sephora. Since then, it’s continued to surge in popularity and expand its lineup. When we first published this review, we’d tried Rhode’s initial 10 products. Subsequently, the company has added seven beauty items to the line, including a bronzer, illuminating milky serum, and under-eye patches. When its 2026 summer makeup collection dropped, Rhode’s website sold $27 million of product in just one day.Perhaps one of the reasons Rhode products are so easy to add to cart is their sensitive-skin-friendly formulas. Bieber has posted online about her struggles with perioral dermatitis, a common inflammatory skin rash, so it makes sense that the brand prioritizes fragrance-free products focused on soothing and hydrating skin. But this simplicity has caused some criticism from online reviewers, suggesting the brand is doing “nothing special.” The color story of Rhode was previously a sea of gray. Now, there are touches of tan, brown, and pink hues. Ruthie Darling/NYT WirecutterWhile Rhode’s skin care and makeup are easy for most people to incorporate into a routine, the selection can be confusing to navigate. Picking between the Glazing Milk, Glazing Mist, and Peptide Glazing Fluid might make your head spin, and you, like us, may be wondering just how many hydrating products it will take to reach that sought-after, glazed-donut finish. When we set out to test the Rhode line, we built a panel of testers ranging in age from 25 to mid-50s. They all had different skin types, tones, and concerns — including sensitive and acne-prone skin, as well as dry, combination, and oily skin. We initially swapped out our go-to products for Rhode items for two weeks, and we continued to test them over many months. I also spoke with two dermatologists, a cosmetic chemist, an aesthetician, and a professional makeup artist to get their takes.Since we first published this review, a few things have changed. While we previously recommended the brand’s face cleanser and blush, we’ve since found better, more affordable options, which are mentioned in our face wash and blush guides. We still stand by the other Rhode products we loved initially, especially after continuing to test and purchase them ourselves. We also added one new makeup item to our list of must-haves.
