Ugandan long-distance runner Leonard Chemonges has set a new record in the 42km men’s race at the Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon.Chemonges, 32, completed the challenging course in 2:13:26 to claim the top prize of Shs 40 million and a new Siro electric bike. His victory saw him break the previous record set by fellow Ugandan Alex Chalanget, who won the 2024 edition in 2:14:59.Alex Mutai finished second in 2:12:37, earning Shs 20 million, while Fred Chemusto took third place in 2:13:50 and received Shs 10 million. Anthony Ayeko and Martin Chemusto completed the top six.In the women’s 42.2km race, Kenyan long-distance runner Margaret Jepchumba claimed victory after finishing in 2:39:16. The 45-year-old member of the Nedbank Running Club attributed her victory to hard work and an unwavering focus on her goal of winning a medal.In the 21km men’s race, Uganda Police Athletics Club runner Abel Chebet won his fourth gold medal in the five editions of the Rwenzori Marathon, while Gloria Chebet claimed gold in the women’s category.Both winners received Shs 15 million.
