It wasn't a stellar week for speed or diversity among the fastest females. None ran faster than a 95 Beyer, all ran on turf, and five of the six came from Saratoga's GII Ballston Spa Stakes.6. She didn't have a smooth opening furlong, but still made her presence felt with a strong turn of foot at the top of the stretch to briefly appear a threat before hanging slightly while being herded out late in a chain reaction caused by the winner. Stonestreet bought her dam–out of GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Folklore (Tiznow)–for $400,000 as a yearling, and while she never actually won a race, she now becomes an astute purchase financially and as a Grade I producer. Richard Rigney paid $975,000 for Tam Tam as a Saratoga yearling. 4. Despite victories by Kensington Lane (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}) ($48.66), Glacius (GB) (Too Darn Hot {GB}) ($21.24) and Survie (Ire) (Churchill {Ire}) ($10.96 and $6.88), Sunlit Uplands was sent off at nearly 10/1 despite a last-out Group 3 score in Germany. After breaking unusually well for a Euro, she was given a perfect covered-up rail pocket trip by Velazquez and charged up to And One More Time (below) with intent, but couldn't quite get past while being carried out late–which led to a stewards' inquiry and disallowed foul claim. Sunlit Uplands and Segesta alternately appeared poised to run past her, but it's no coincidence that four of her six victories have been by less than a length. Determination is in her gene pool: the offspring of Phipps-bred dam Complicated (Blame) have finished first or second in 37 of 68 starts, and included on that list are GISW Simply In Front (Summer Front), GSW Honor D Lady (Honor Code) and SW Churchtown (Air Force Blue). Meanwhile, her unraced 2-year-old Roosevelt (Golden Pal) is scheduled to make his debut Sunday at Kentucky Downs.
