India must remain vigilant against unilateral alterations of the status quo while demonstrating strategic patience and diplomatic dexterity. The installation of scientifically designed honeycomb sponge manholes along roads across the country could become an important component of such a national water-management strategy. Honeycomb sponge manholes can be designed to receive and temporarily store rainwater, allowing it to percolate into the ground in a controlled manner and contribute to groundwater recharge. This system could function as a decentralised rainwater-harvesting network beneath our streets.
