But he’s not.“He’s most effective in a back four. I know people have criticised his defending over the years, but because he’s not a typical overlapping full-back and he’s not about beating men.“He’s about being able to play the best pass you’ve ever seen really early, that makes him a better right-back in a back-four than a wing-back.“With a wing-back, you want someone who’s going to rampage on the outside.“There’s definitely a feeling when they went out and made signings and they signed a guy in Denzel Dumfries who is someone who’s very comfortable, a right-back who’s very comfortable with a lot of the game going through him.Dumfries started against Espanyol last weekendGetty“He’s a very different right-back to Trent Alexander-Arnold, because he’s a guy who will go outside and will beat a man. “He’s not a guy who’s going to ping loads of crosses in the box. It makes you think, if he’s one of Mourinho’s first signings, is that indicative of what Mourinho wants from a full-back? “If that’s the case, well, Trent Alexander-Arnold is either going to change position, as has been suggested, maybe play in midfield, or he’s not going to play a lot.”Alexander-Arnold perfect for Newcastle?The right-back will be on huge wages at Madrid, meaning a move, even on loan, would be prohibitive for most clubs.This would likely mean a Premier League team are the most likely candidates.If this was not a return to Liverpool, then Brassell picked out Newcastle as an ideal fit.“Other than that, I think it is really difficult, because it would be a Prem team. If you could loan Alexander-Arnold to Newcastle for a year, he would be brilliant there, especially with the pace they’ve got.“Imagine the switches of play that he could engineer. Maybe that’s not an appealing move to him, to go to a rebuilding team in the Premier League. “The reality is because of financial reasons, the Premier League is probably the most obvious place for him to go.“If it’s not Liverpool, there’s a very limited pool. “He’s such a brilliant player, who is massively underappreciated, and kind of treated as a problem, rather than a solution to a problem.Alexander-Arnold reunited with Salah?Another option would be the Turkish Super Lig, who are capable of paying the sort of wages that Alexander-Arnold would be on.His former teammate Mohamed Salah just so happens to be at Trabzonspor.Brassell added: “I look at Trent and I think he’s a little bit like the Glenn Hoddle of his time, in that no one with half a brain is arguing that he’s not a great player, but to fit him in a team is actually quite difficult, to optimise his qualities.“I don’t think you get a better fit anywhere than you get with Alexander-Arnold and Salah together at Liverpool.Salah moved to Turkey after leaving Liverpool this summerGetty“That’s immediately put in my head, what if Trabzonspor were going to go and get him?“I know that seems like an obvious link, but you’re talking about a league that’s got a lot of money.“If he’s going to go somewhere from Real Madrid, unless he’s taken a massive wage cut, it’s not elsewhere in Spain, it’s not to Italy, where does he end up? Maybe the Super Lig at some point. I would absolutely love to see him reunited with Mo Salah.“Mo Salah would go and pick him up in his car from Madrid, if he thought he could get him, and drive him back to Istanbul, because they were so good together. “I think it’s something that’s not really talked about that much. “When Alexander-Arnold went, it exposed a lot of the other weaknesses in Salah’s game. He wasn’t able to do what he normally did.“I don’t think he took Trent Alexander-Arnold for granted, but maybe other people took what Trent Alexander-Arnold did for Salah for granted. “If you put the two of them together, it makes them Turkish champions straight away. There’s no partnership like it.“Whether they’ve got enough left in the piggy bank after Salah to make that happen, who knows?”
