The half-time player ratings for Tottenham’s round two Carabao Cup clash against Charlton are in, with the Lilywhites heading into the break 2-0 up.Tottenham first-half player ratings vs HoffenheimAntonin Kinsky – The Spurs shot-stopper was drawn into a couple of saves in the first half, but was equal to the task. 5.Archie Gray – Playing at right-back this evening, Roberto De Zerbi looks to have given Gray the licence to venture forward in this clash. The youngster has taken that invitation on several occasions, overlapping Moore. Defensively, though, he has barely been threatened. Later in the half, he had Spurs’ best chance of the game with a toe poke from inside the box, but it was well saved. 7.Jan Paul van Hecke – It has not been entirely a walk in the park for the Dutchman, who has had to do some covering out wide when Gray overlaps and is caught out of position. Van Hecke, however, has dealt well in those instances. He continues to be an asset in possession with his passing from defence. He has also stopped several attacks high up in midfield. 7.Ben Davies – The Welshman has looked comfortable in possession, often making driving runs from defence into midfield, helping carry Tottenham high up the pitch. 6.Destiny Udogie – His addition to the squad has allowed Spurs to mix things up down on the left. Udogie and Tel look to be alternating when each one holds the width and when the other stays inside. He has found himself in the box on several occasions already, although no goal contribution. 7.Rodrigo Bentancur – A quieter outing for the Uruguayan, who has been deployed at defensive midfield with Spurs having to do little defending in this encounter. In possession, though, he has been tidy with his passing. He was the one who got the assist for Moore’s opener. 7.Mateus Fernandes – In possession, he looks to be operating more as a deep-lying playmaker, with Bergvall pushing higher. However, out of possession, he has been tasked with leading the press. He has managed a few long balls, switching play and often finding Moore on the far side. As the game grew, his influence improved, with Fernandes getting on the ball more and linking better with his teammates. He did manage a shot, but it was saved. 7.5.Credit: @tristram pearson/InstagramLucas Bergvall – He looks to have been deployed in the centre of the field but also has the licence to drift, often offering width on the right for Tottenham as they continue to overload Charlton’s left. Has combined well with Moore and Gray on that side. 7.Mikey Moore – The teenager has seen a lot of the ball this first half, with Spurs often looking to overload Charlton’s left. However, he has not managed any product, with his final pass and decision-making often letting him down. Regardless, it has been a lively half for the youngster. He eventually was rewarded for his hard work after he smashed one into the net from inside the box. Certainly an improvement from last weekend when his strike lacked a bit of power. He had the last touch before Solanke’s goal and ended the half with a goal and an assist. 9.Dominic Solanke – De Zerbi was frank in his assessment of Solanke after the Brentford game, demanding that the centre-forward be more aggressive up front, especially when it comes to holding play up. He looks to have taken those words to heart, often holding up the ball and bringing his teammates into the game at times in this half. He scored Spurs’ second of the evening after reacting quickest to a mix-up in the Charlton box. 8.Mathys Tel – A quieter outing for the wide forward, who has failed to run at the Charlton defence throughout the first half.
