The protocol is designed to coordinate Encrypted Execution Environments (E3s) across a distributed set of operators called ciphernodes, allowing independent parties to produce shared, verifiable outcomes from private inputs without custody, exposure, or trusted hardware. An application requests an E3, participants submit encrypted inputs, and the computation runs across a ciphernode committee under threshold cryptographic control, so no single operator can observe the full computation or determine the outcome.The Interfold combines fully homomorphic encryption (FHE), zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs), and distributed threshold cryptography to support use cases including sealed-bid auctions, private voting and governance, multiparty computation workflows, and collaborative analysis of sensitive datasets. The protocol is open source and was previously known as Enclave.
