Malta’s Romanian Orthodox community has launched a humanitarian appeal to help Gheorghe Misaila return home to his family in Romania after suffering a severe stroke.According to an appeal shared by the Romanian Orthodox Church in Malta, Gheorghe was admitted to Mater Dei Hospital after suffering the stroke a few days ago.The stroke reportedly left him paralysed on his right side and unable to speak, meaning he currently requires assistance with almost everything. While Gheorghe is now medically stable and can be discharged from acute hospital care, he continues to require rehabilitation and ongoing support. After speaking with his family, the community believes the best option is to help him return to Romania, where relatives can care for him and he can continue his rehabilitation. However, Gheorghe is currently unemployed and unable to afford the costs of making the journey home.Doctors have also recommended that he does not travel alone, meaning a relative would need to fly from Romania to Malta before accompanying him back. The appeal is therefore raising money to cover three flights, transport to and from the airports, medication, adult nappies, basic care products and other expenses associated with getting Gheorghe safely home.“At the moment, we don’t know exactly how much everything will cost,” Fr George Alexandru Popescu wrote. “We are trying to work out all the arrangements and find the safest and most affordable way to get him home.”The community is appealing for donations of any size, stressing that even €5 or €10 could help bring Gheorghe one step closer to being reunited with his family.“I really hope that together we can raise what is needed and see Gheorghe safely back in Romania, close to his family,” Fr George said. “Let’s help him get home.”Donations can be made:Revolut: @george70eaTel: +356 7732 8474Romanian Orthodox Community and Parish of Saint John the Baptist in MaltaBank: APS BANKBranch: Sliema BranchIBAN: MT14 APSB 7701 3000 0000 4710 4010 015SWIFT/BIC: APSBMTMTPlease write GHEORGHE as the payment reference.Share to aid in this cause!•
