Inspector General Gagandeep Gambhir reached Bhavnagar on Saturday as part of the investigation.The State Monitoring Cell (SMC) of the Gujarat Police has arrested 13 more persons, including a key accused from Madhya Pradesh, in connection with the Bhavnagar hooch tragedy that claimed 13 lives, taking the total number of arrests in the case to 27.The SMC, which is under direct control of the Gujarat DGP, on Monday said that it had arrested 13 people on August 23. A local court in Bhavnagar granted them police custody till September 2, an SMC statement said.Among the 13 accused, Anand Rakesh Chhandi was arrested from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh.“Chhandi had played a major role in the conspiracy to sell poisonous liquor. The chemical for making poisonous liquor came through him,” the SMC statement said.Also Read | 2 more die in liquor tragedy in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar; death toll now 13The other 12 accused, all residents of Bhavnagar, played an important role in the supply chain, ordered the bottles, stored them in their possession and then sold them to people, the SMC said.The 12 accused have been identified as Arvind alias Pandey Dinesh Solanki, Sanjay Nanu Makwana, Nitin alias Munna Devji Mori, Kishor alias Pochcho Chhana Solanki, Mayur Vinod Solanki, Sanjay Devji Mori, Mukesh alias Kachori Govind Baraiya, Sanjay alias Chakram Dhanji Baraiya, Nirmalsinh Gambhirsinh Vaghela, Parthrajsinh Harendrasinh Gohil, Sanjay Rawat Chavda, and Bhagirathsinh Sahdevsinh Gohil.As many as 13 accused were arrested on August 21 and one more on August 22 – all of them have been remanded in SMC custody till September 1.Also Read | Gujarat doctors race against metabolism to save those who drank toxic liquorThe SMC took over the probe on August 19, a day after 21 persons were booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder in an FIR registered at Vartej police station.Story continues below this adSuperintendent of Police Mayur Chavda, who heads the investigation, has deployed 16 teams to different districts of Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat to find the origin of Methanol and other chemicals used in the toxic liquor, how they were transported to Gujarat, a dry state, and who all were involved in this supply chain.Narendrasinh Yadav alias Doctor, who is alleged to have brewed the tainted liquor, died on August 18 after consuming it.
