Prosecutors have continued their closing arguments in Yorgen Fenech’s murder trial this morning, telling jurors that “all paths lead to Yorgen Fenech.”Prosecutor Anthony Vella argued that while Daphne Caruana Galizia had criticised many people throughout her career, the key question was who had a motive that matched the evidence surrounding a commissioned murder.Vella told jurors that Fenech had the motive, money and hatred to order Daphne’s assassination, pointing towards his alleged fears over being exposed as the owner of secret company 17 Black.The prosecutor also returned to the evidence of middleman Melvin Theuma, saying his testimony was clear that Fenech, known as “Ta’ Tumas”, had commissioned him.Vella referred to one of Theuma’s secret recordings in which Fenech is heard recalling giving him €150,000, which the prosecution says was for the murder.He also alleged that Fenech passed information about the murder investigation to Theuma so the hitmen could be warned about an impending police raid, and later provided money towards their legal defence.“All paths lead to Yorgen Fenech,” Vella told the jury, before arguing that Fenech’s own private writings showed he believed he had everything to lose.Vella also pushed back against the defence’s case surrounding former OPM chief of staff Keith Schembri, arguing that the motive attributed to Schembri did not fit the evidence.Fenech, 44, is charged with complicity in Daphne Caruana Galizia’s murder and criminal association. He denies any involvement in the assassination.Yorgen Fenech is pleading not guilty in this case.•
