MSFT Aug 24–28: $480 Is Holding, But $490 Owns the WeekMicrosoft CorporationNASDAQ:MSFTBullBearInsights Microsoft is probably the least dramatic chart on my watchlist right now. That may be exactly why I like it. MSFT had its dramatic moment already. At the end of July, the stock exploded out of the $390 area, ran through $450 almost immediately, and eventually reached **$513.73**. Since then, things have changed. The rally stopped. Price pulled back. And for the last several sessions, MSFT has been sitting around **$480 to $485**, doing almost nothing. That doesn't sound exciting. But after a move from roughly $395 to $513, I actually pay a lot of attention when a stock suddenly goes quiet. It usually means buyers and sellers are trying to figure out what the new fair price should be. Right now, that argument seems to be happening around **$480**. The daily chart still looks healthy enough to me. MSFT gave back part of the August rally, but it hasn't returned anywhere close to the original breakout area. Price is still well above the larger support around the mid-$460s. So I don't see a broken daily chart. I see a stock digesting a large move. The 4-hour chart is where things become more interesting. The recent low is around **$476.08**. MSFT bounced from there, but buyers haven't been able to create much distance. Every attempt higher keeps running into resistance above current price. RSI is sitting around **46**, which is almost perfectly neutral. That matches the price action. Nobody really has control. The GEX positioning gives this sideways action a little more context. There is a cluster immediately around current price at **$480, $482.50 and $485**. Then the larger upside levels show up at **$490, $495 and $500**. The level that stands out most to me is **$490**. There is noticeably stronger positioning there than at the surrounding strikes. That makes $490 more than just another round number on my chart. It's the first price where I think buyers would have to prove that this pullback is actually ending. MSFT can trade at $485 all day and still tell me almost nothing. A move through **$490** is different. If the stock gets above $490 and can stay there, then $495 becomes the next obvious area. After that comes $500. And $500 is where the chart gets interesting again because we're moving back toward the upper part of the recent 4-hour range. Above $500, I would start thinking seriously about whether MSFT wants another attempt at the **$510 to $514 area**. That's where the previous rally ran out of energy. I wouldn't assume it gets there simply because $490 breaks, but the road starts looking much cleaner. The other side of this setup begins at $480. There is a reason I keep coming back to that number. The 4-hour candles have repeatedly traded around it, the GEX map places an important level there, and the recent swing low is only a few dollars underneath. If MSFT slips below $480 for a few minutes, I don't care very much. If it starts living below $480, I care. Then **$477.50 and the recent $476 low** become important. A clean loss of that area would tell me the current consolidation is beginning to fail. Below there, the GEX map gives me **$475, $472.50 and $470**. That $470 area is where I would become much more defensive. The daily chart also has a larger technical level not far below it, around the upper $460s. So if MSFT starts losing $470, this is no longer just a little sideways consolidation around $480. Something has changed. There is another reason I think this setup deserves patience. Look at where MSFT came from. The stock traveled more than $100 in a matter of weeks. Markets don't always follow a move like that with another immediate $100 move. Sometimes they simply sit there. And sitting there can be useful. It allows momentum to cool down without destroying the larger structure. That might be exactly what Microsoft is doing. So I wouldn't come into Monday trying to guess whether MSFT is going to $500 or $470. I think the market has already given us better information than that. **$480 is where buyers are defending.** **$490 is where they need to prove they can take control again.** Everything between those prices is still negotiation. Above $490, my attention shifts toward $495 and $500. Below $480, I start watching $477.50 and $475. Lose the recent $476 low convincingly and the character of the trade changes. Hold $480 and eventually reclaim $490, and this quiet consolidation may turn out to have been exactly what MSFT needed before another attempt higher. That's what I'm watching during August 24–28. Not whether Microsoft is a good company. Not whether AI spending is bullish. Not whether someone has a $600 price target. Just two prices. **$480 and $490.** One is keeping the pullback alive. The other can end it.
