The Salesians in Malta are calling on the public to help communities in Colombia recover from a devastating earthquake which has left hundreds dead and hundreds of thousands affected. The fundraising campaign, titled “Colombia is Calling”, will support Salesian communities responding to the destruction caused by the powerful earthquake that struck the country on 10th August.According to figures cited in the appeal from Colombia’s National Unit for Disaster Risk Management, 331 people have died, 4,439 have been injured and 240 remain missing, while more than 361,000 people have been affected across 494 municipalities.Salesian communities working directly with children and young people have also suffered significant damage. In Cali, around 65% of the San Juan Bosco School has reportedly been damaged, affecting approximately 500 students and 50 members of staff. Collapsed walls, damaged roofs and structural cracks have left parts of the school unsafe.Despite being affected themselves, Salesians and their partners are already distributing essential supplies, helping families and assessing what will be needed to rebuild damaged facilities. Now, the Salesians in Malta are asking people across the islands to lend a hand.Money raised through “Colombia is Calling” will go towards the Salesian response in Colombia, helping affected communities recover, rebuild and resume services for vulnerable children, young people and families.“Every donation, no matter its size, can make a difference,” the Salesians said. Those wishing to contribute can donate through the Salesians in Malta’s bank, Revolut or BOV Mobile channels, using “Colombia is Calling” as the payment reference.Name of Bank: APS BANKIBAN: MT85APSB77013000000043645620013BIC: APSBMTMTRevolut: +356 7941 3936BOV Mobile to Mobile: +356 7941 3936Reference: Colombia is CallingShare to help the cause!•
