MDA sites illegally allotted under 50:50 scheme since 2019 to be cancelled: Yathindra - The HinduUpdated - August 28, 2026 08:02 pm IST - MYSURUMinister in-charge of Mysuru district Yathindra Siddaramaiah speaking to reporters in Mysuru on Friday. | Photo Credit: M.A. SriramDays after announcing the cancellation of sites allotted by the erstwhile Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) under the controversial 50:50 ratio scheme after 2023, Urban Development Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah on Friday said the government would cancel all sites illegally allotted by the Authority under the scheme since 2019.Mr. Yathindra’s statement comes after the government’s earlier decision to cancel allotments made under the scheme since March 14, 2023, triggered demands from the Opposition BJP and JD(S) for the cancellation of all illegal allotments under the scheme.Fielding questions from reporters in Mysuru, Mr. Yathindra said the government would not only cancel all illegal allotments made under the scheme since 2019, but also scrutinise allotments made before 2019 to identify cases involving the illegal allotment of alternative or incentive sites.The erstwhile MUDA, now renamed the Mysuru Development Authority (MDA), had introduced the 50:50 scheme in 2019 to allot sites as compensation to land-losers. The scheme envisaged allotment of 50% of the developed land in lieu of the undeveloped land acquired by MUDA.However, Mr. Yathindra said sites were allegedly allotted illegally under the scheme to several people whose land had not been acquired by MUDA or in the name of persons, who had already claimed compensation.In some cases, he said compensation had been claimed for the full extent of land when only a small portion had been acquired for purposes like road construction. “All illegal allotments (of compensatory sites) would be cancelled,” he said.Asked about the government’s course of action in cases where houses had been constructed on illegally allotted sites, Mr. Yathindra said he would obtain details of such constructions and seek legal opinion before deciding on the further course of action. “I will collect the information and provide details later,” he said.BJP padayatraResponding to a question on the BJP’s proposed padayatra demanding the resignation of Minister for Planning and Statistics B. Nagendra, Mr. Yathindra said the BJP had not been willing to discuss the issue in the Legislative Assembly.“We asked them to come to the Assembly and we would reply.
