Malta’s economy continued to grow in the second quarter of 2026, with new figures from the National Statistics Office showing GDP reaching around €6.5 billion.Provisional estimates show GDP increased by €417.1 million compared to the same period last year, representing nominal growth of 6.8%. In volume terms, which strips out price effects, the economy grew by 4.5%.Domestic demand was the main driver, contributing 5.3 percentage points to GDP growth, while foreign trade had a negative contribution of 0.7 percentage points.Services remained a major source of growth, contributing 4.3 percentage points. Particularly strong increases were recorded in financial and insurance activities, up 12.2%, information and communication, up 9.2%, and professional, scientific and technical activities, up 7.5%.Household consumption increased by 3.5%, while government consumption rose by 14.7%. Gross fixed capital formation, meanwhile, increased by 5.1%.Exports of goods and services increased by 3%, while imports rose faster at 4.1%.The figures also show GDP per capita at €10,976 during Q2, compared with €10,547 in the same quarter of 2025.Meanwhile, Gross National Income was estimated at €5.7 billion, while the GDP deflator increased by 2.2% year-on-year.The latest figures cover April to June 2026 and remain provisional.How do you feel Malta’s economic growth is being reflected in everyday life?•
