From e-ticket rides like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT to family-favorites like Peter Pan’s Flight in Magic Kingdom Park, guests flock from all over the world to enjoy these classic and innovative experiences.One practical way to experience popular attractions before the big daytime crowds hit is through rope-dropping. This practice takes place at the top of the day when the gates to each theme park open to guests. Those already onsite when the rope drops can then speed-walk (not run) to their chosen attraction and ride or experience it before wait times climb higher and higher.However, even after hours of rest, some attractions just aren’t up to greeting the morning rush. As such, not all rides are available at rope drop, meaning disappointment is common. For example, last week’s data tells us that most of the Disney World parks fell victim to opening hour closures, leaving guests with no option but to head elsewhere.Credit: DisneyAccording to data sourced from Touring Plans Blog, hundreds of rope drop guests were completely shut out of accessing a number of popular attractions while visiting the resort between August 18 and August 24.Rope drop downtime — the percentage of mornings this week that an attraction experienced a delayed or halted opening — hit Magic Kingdom the hardest across Walt Disney World. Tomorrowland’s PeopleMover, the slow-moving overhead people mover that circles the Tomorrowland hub with a brief detour through Space Mountain, led the park at 19%, followed by Frontierland’s runaway mine train coaster Big Thunder Mountain at 16%.Credit: Inside the MagicFantasyland’s The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (15%) and “it’s a small world” (14%) also saw frequent hiccups, as did Adventureland’s Pirates of the Caribbean (13%) and Frontierland’s newest addition, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure (11%), which replaced Splash Mountain in 2024.Over at EPCOT, World Discovery’s Journey Into Imagination With Figment — the whimsical dark ride following the purple dragon through the Imagination Institute — topped the list at 27%, with the park’s iconic entrance centerpiece Spaceship Earth close behind at 18%. World Showcase’s Frozen Ever After in the Norway pavilion (14%) and World Discovery’s Test Track (12%) rounded out the EPCOT numbers.Credit: Inside the MagicHollywood Studios saw its own share of morning slowdowns, led by Toy Story Land’s launch coaster Slinky Dog Dash at 23%, followed by Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge’s flagship attraction Rise of the Resistance at 15% and the Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway dark ride at the park’s Hollywood Boulevard entrance at 12%.Animal Kingdom bucked the trend entirely, reporting no rope drop downtime issues across any of its attractions for the week — a notably clean run compared to its three sister parks.
