Dr. Dre recently revealed that he is using AI to make music, and he’s been getting some pushback. In a message shared on X/Twitter, Audiomack co-founder Brian “Z” Zisook ripped into the hip-hop legend for his AI “Propaganda.”Sharing a story about Dre’s reveal, Z fired off: “It’s the exact same script. They’re all reading from the EXACT SAME SCRIPT.” He then shared some quotes he feels he’s seen often: “It’s just a tool” and “If you don’t adapt, you’ll get left behind.”Z continued, “The commercial music industry dates back 500 years. We’ve never had trouble creating music without AI.” He concluded, “The nonsense is propaganda.”Dr. Dre says he sees AI as a “tool” no different from synthesizersZ’s comments come after Dr. Dre gave a NY Times interview in which he said only people “who have trouble creating” are afraid of using AI tools to make music.Speaking alongside his longtime business partner Jimmy Iovine, Dre said he doesn’t perceive AI to be “a threat” to producing music. “I think the only people that see it as a threat are the people who have trouble creating,” Dre said.“I had a discussion with a few people a few days ago,” Dre continued. “They were against AI, and I’m like, ‘OK, you sound like the person that would have been against the drum machine when it came out.’ Or synthesizers, right? It’s a new tool for creativity. Some people are afraid of learning new things.”Dre went on to admit that he has been using AI software “as a tool to see what it would do with what I just did.” Iovine then added, “So is Timbaland — another brilliant producer. By the way, there’s a lot of closet AI producers out there.”Dr. Dre is not the only hip-hop icon who’s turned to AI for producing musicAs Iovine mentioned, Timbaland has been open about his use of AI music tools for some time. Back in 2025, Timbaland was a guest on The Inner Court podcast. During the conversation, he said that he thinks new artists are “uninspiring” and make “soulless” music. He then brought up the 2024 presidential election and said that he believes AI music would have bridged American division in that time.“You could feel the pressure of the dividedness, and I hate that. This whole election divided us,” Timbaland said. “What I mean by that is it divided the music. The music sounds bland, it sounds boring—it lacks excitement. While we frequently discuss AI, I believe it’s the only entity that embodies a genuine soul right now. It allows for the expression of true feelings, resulting in it coming out beautiful.”“I feel like right now everything is discombobulated,” he added. “Which aligns with everything in the world. Ain’t no song right now—and y’all gotta admit—that’s grabbing you.
