Disney streaming subscribers are about to see another change hit their monthly bills.Beginning in September, some longtime customers will have to pay more to keep a bundle that is no longer even available to new subscribers. The increase affects Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN Select, adding another $3 per month for customers who remain on the legacy plan.It may not sound like an enormous increase on its own. But it arrives at a difficult time for the streaming industry, as viewers increasingly find themselves juggling multiple subscriptions that continue to become more expensive.Credit: LucasfilmDisney Raises Legacy Bundle Price in SeptemberDisney’s Legacy Bundle will increase from $24.99 per month to $27.99 per month beginning September 17, 2026.The plan includes Disney+ without ads, while Hulu and ESPN Select are supported by ads.According to Disney’s plans and pricing information, customers who opted into the Legacy Bundle before August 20, 2026, will see the new $27.99 price during their first billing period on or after September 17.That’s a $3 monthly increase, or an additional $36 over the course of a full year. There’s another important wrinkle for subscribers.Disney no longer sells the Legacy Bundle to new customers. Existing subscribers also cannot leave the plan and later switch back to it. Once customers move away from the bundle, they must choose from Disney’s currently available subscription options. That could make the September increase particularly frustrating for people who otherwise like what their existing bundle offers.Subscribers essentially have to decide whether paying another $36 annually is worth keeping a discontinued package that still fits their streaming habits.Disney’s Newer Bundle Costs Even MoreDisney has continued reshaping its streaming offerings as ESPN becomes a bigger piece of its direct-to-consumer strategy. It’s clear that Disney is likely trying to push legacy customers towards its new packages. One of its primary current options bundles Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN Unlimited, which provides a more comprehensive ESPN offering than ESPN Select. That bundle starts at $35.99 per month.Customers who want Disney+ and Hulu without ads, along with additional download capabilities, can move up to the $44.99-per-month version. Live programming and certain other content can still contain ads. That creates a noticeable gap between the discontinued Legacy Bundle and Disney’s newer package.Even after September’s increase, legacy customers will pay $27.99 compared to the $35.99 starting price for the Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN Unlimited bundle. That’s an $8 difference every month, or $96 over a year. For subscribers who don’t need the broader ESPN Unlimited offering, staying with the older bundle could still make financial sense despite the increase.Credit: DisneyStreaming Fatigue Is Becoming Harder To IgnoreThe bigger issue for Disney may be how customers view another price increase in an increasingly expensive streaming market.Streaming was once promoted as a cheaper, more flexible alternative to traditional cable. Customers could subscribe to the services they wanted and cancel the ones they didn’t.That landscape has changed considerably.Major entertainment companies now operate their own platforms, meaning viewers may need several subscriptions to follow different shows, movies, and sports. Prices have also increased across the industry while ad-supported tiers have become increasingly common.A few dollars here and there can quickly become a much larger monthly entertainment bill.Disney faces the same challenge as every major streaming company: convincing customers that its content remains valuable enough to justify another recurring expense. For someone already paying for Netflix, Peacock, Paramount+, Apple TV, Prime Video, or other services, another $3 increase could become a reason to reconsider which subscriptions actually get used each month.Disney+ Customers Have a Decision ComingLegacy Bundle subscribers still have a few weeks before the higher price takes effect.Starting September 17, however, eligible customers will begin seeing that $27.99 charge as their billing cycles renew.Because the Legacy Bundle is closed to new subscriptions and customers cannot switch back after leaving it, canceling isn’t necessarily a decision subscribers will want to make quickly.Disney is effectively asking longtime customers to pay more to preserve access to a plan they can no longer get back once it’s gone. For Disney, an extra $3 per month could mean additional streaming revenue from customers who stick around. For subscribers already tired of watching streaming prices climb, however, September’s increase could be another reminder to start looking at which services are actually worth keeping. The post Disney+ Raises Prices Again, New $27.99 Charge Takes Effect September 17 appeared first on Inside the Magic.
