GRAND PRAIRIE, TX – With temperatures continuing to post triple digits in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area this past week, the Texas Yearling Sale hosted by the Texas Thoroughbred Association (TTA) will try to match the heat starting at 11:00 a.m. CT on Tuesday, Aug. 25 in the Mary Ruyle Sales Pavilion at Lone Star Park. The updated catalogue includes 153 yearlings and 11 Horses of Racing Age. The offerings include stock from the adjoining states of Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, plus those more further afield from Kentucky, California, Virginia and Arizona.Last year, the Texas Yearling Sale tallied 182 horses sold and grossed $2.92-million with an average sale price of $16.06k and a median of $7.50k.Since that auction the TTA has created a pair of $100,000 stakes races for 2-year-olds which will take place during Lone Star's Thoroughbred meet in 2027.“Horses offered in Tuesday's auction are eligible for the Texas Thoroughbred Association sales stakes series, which is six stakes worth $700,000,” said Corey Johnsen, who serves as the chairman of the TTA sales committee and is on the organization's board. “Our sale has attracted many quality state breds that can run in their local programs but also have another six races to consider.“This region has a number of successful breeders who raise quality horses,” he added. “The TTA has an excellent sales facility at Lone Star Park. Our goal is to provide them with a reliable opportunity to sell their yearlings.”Diving into the list of successful breeders, it's been a strong year for Eric and Randi Moreau-Sipiere of Centurion Stud. The owners who raise both Thoroughbreds and Arabians near Como, Texas and run a logistics outfit that ferries horses to clients in the Middle East, North Africa and throughout Europe were just named by the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA) as the State Breeder of the Year for Texas. For the Texas Yearling Sale, the couple will once again have a small consignment of Texas-breds, which is represented by sires like Independence Hall (hip 110), Nashville (hip 9) and Speaker's Corner (hip 4).Yearling filly by Speaker's Corner (hip 4) w/Randi Moreau-Sipiere | JN Campbell“It's mainly to support Texas, support the racing here and the breeding program,” said Centurion's Randi Moreau-Sipiere said about the TTA Sale. “It's just to be a participant, whether it's breeding, selling or racing. We try to encompass everything. Being named to Texas breeder of the year by TOBA was just a total shock to us. In this business you never start out with a mare and think she is for sure going to produce a graded stakes winner.”Also on the grounds in Grand Prairie with a strong contribution through their consignment is Colin Brennan Bloodstock at Highlander Training Center. Colin Brennan and his sister Kristin Brennan spearhead the full-service operation that is based near Sulphur Springs, Texas. With over 25 yearlings, the team will also consign a group of Horses of Racing Age starting with hip 159.“The sale is local to us at Highlander,” said Colin Brennan. “Kristin and the team bring loads of professional experience and that's been recognized by the new clientele who have reached out. We have a smaller consignment this year and we've really tried to focus on that. For a regional sale like this one, we feel this is a solid and appropriate group.”Yearlings by sires like Cyberknife (hip 153), Olympiad (hip 68) and Vekoma (hip 31) are on offer. But solid Texas/Louisiana-based sires like Aurelius Maximus (hip 7), Shoplifted (hip 107) and El Deal (hip 49) are here too.“I think there are ones in here that immediately catch you eye, even when they're walking across to get their bath,” said Kristin Brennan. “I think the Aurelius Maximus–Ruby Begonia colt [hip 7] is a standout horse. There's a nice Shoplifted colt out of Howboutthiscowgirl [hip 107] that should do well. We're ready to get this sale going.”To access the online catalogue and for more information on the sale, click here. The post Auction Heat: TX Yearling Sale At Lone Star Park Gavels Tuesday appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
