Newcastle United are advancing in talks with Manchester City to sign midfielder Nico Gonzalez.Discussions between the Premier League teams over a fee are understood to be in the final stages, with Newcastle set to submit a proposal to the player. City are open to allowing Gonzalez to leave this summer despite the exits of Bernardo Silva, Rodri and Tijjani Reijnders from their midfield options. Gonzalez has struggled for a regular role at City and has started only 26 league games across 18 months at the club. The midfielder signed for Manchester City from FC Porto for a fee of around £50m in the 2025 January transfer window. He was named on the bench for this weekend’s win over Bournemouth, with centre-back Marc Guehi preferred in midfield. Fabrizio Romano has reported that Newcastle are now confident of signing the Spaniard after a clear message that he can depart. The Magpies are keen to reinforce in central midfield after the sales of Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes. At 24 and with Premier League experience, Gonzalez is viewed as an ideal option, if Newcastle can convince the player of their project. City are willing to let Gonzalez leave as the club close in on the €100m signing of Lille teenager Ayyoub Bouaddi.Read – Wissa reveals leader message from new Newcastle managerRead more – Underperforming Liverpool pair told they have had ‘kind’ media treatmentFollow the Football Faithful on Social Media:Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | YouTube | TikTokThe post Newcastle advancing in talks to sign Manchester City midfielder appeared first on The Football Faithful.
