So I do freelance graphic design on the side and this lady found me through a mutual friend. She messaged me saying she loved my work and needed help with her new skincare line. Cool, I thought maybe this could be a decent project. She wanted a full logo, product labels, social media templates, business cards, and packaging mockups. I sent her my rates and she immediately said that was way too much for a small business owner just starting out. Then she offered me exposure on her Instagram page which had like 200 followers and most of them were her family members based on the comments. I politely declined and she got upset saying I should support women entrepreneurs and that her business is going to blow up soon so I would regret missing this opportunity. She also mentioned she could tag me in one post as payment and that should be enough since her audience is very engaged. I checked her page again and her most popular post had 31 likes. When I said no again she told me I clearly dont understand marketing and that real designers know the value of collaborating with upcoming brands. She ended the conversation by saying she'll just find someone more professional who gets it. The kicker is she posted on her story the next day asking if anyone knows a good designer who works for free because she got scammed by someone asking for actual money.
