It's 2026, and as the entertainment industry rapidly adapts to advances in streaming technology and shifts in consumer behavior, Paramount+ has bafflingly made its live feeds worse. While making the feeds available on an ad-supported plan on Pluto TV for those who don't have a Paramount+ subscription was a step forward, the service has taken two steps back in other areas. It's inconceivable, especially as someone who has watched Big Brother online for years and continues to see the service degrade. The thing is, we have plenty of other livestream services thriving elsewhere, and so many obvious ways to make the service better. I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir for fellow live-feed viewers, but for others who are just casually interested, here's what we lack that we need back in the live feeds. (Image credit: CBS)Don't Cut The Feeds, Change The CameraSo many times over the years I've had other Big Brother fans tell me they can't watch the live feeds because the feeds cut so often. I often make the argument that casuals watch the live feeds the wrong way, but I do generally agree the feeds are cut way too often in an average season. While I believe that Big Brother producers occasionally cut the feeds to save specific moments for episodes, there's also plenty of other common reasons feed operators will cut to the logo screen. Houseguests singing copyrighted music, talking about people back home who didn't consent to being talked about, are some of the most common reasons, and I understand the legal justification in BB cutting away. That said, you'd think in a house where there are over a hundred cameras in rotation, the feeds operator could just switch the action elsewhere for a bit and then return after lecturing Houseguests about something they shouldn't sing or discuss. Sure, what they cut to might not always be interesting, but if I'm being honest, sometimes I'm watching a Houseguest sit on their bed for twenty minutes saying nothing, so I think there's nothing wrong with switching to a dud shot. (Image credit: CBS)Allow Users To Clip And Share MomentsThe wild thing about Big Brother is that it should naturally cater to a younger Gen-Z audience. After all, there are big names out there like Kai Cenat and many others who built massive followings on Twitch, where they just sit and livestream for hours. They've built their fame on viral live clips, many of which are clipped on the streaming platform and shared to the internet. Meanwhile, Paramount+ doesn't have an easy way to share its live-feed moments, and has even sent cease-and-desist warnings to popular fan accounts who put in the work and do. It's the wrong move to make in my eyes, especially with the potential audience that can be pulled in. Maybe fewer Survivor vets, and more Twitch personalities next season? (Image credit: CBS)Give Us Isolated Audio On The Multicam FeatureI could go on about how it was ridiculous that Paramount+ removed the flashback feature from Big Brother, or point out how the whole initiative to get the live feeds on YouTube has fallen a bit flat with little fanfare. I would just like the streamer to add the ability to give us isolated audio when we use the multicam option, which is pretty standard in many other live stream services. In fact, YouTube TV currently has an option where I can pick any four networks I have and watch them all at the same time while isolating audio on one stream. We've gone so far beyond the standard technology needed to create this massively useful tool that Paramount+ could add that it's not even funny. And yet, with each passing year, we're given fewer features, rather than any work being put in to improve a service that is intended to drive in subscribers. The good thing about Big Brother is it's always capable of change, so I hope the live feeds will improve at some point in the future. Check them out on Paramount+ in the meantime, or over on Pluto TV for an ad-supported option if you aren't a subscriber.
