(Photo Credit: Special Arrangement)The Bengaluru police Saturday arrested a man for allegedly stabbing to death a transgender woman during a robbery attempt near the Majestic bus stand in the city.The deceased has been identified as Devi, 27.The accused, Gautham, 28, a resident of Ramamurthy Nagar, was traced and arrested by police teams following the incident.According to Yatish N, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru West Division, the incident occurred between 2.30 am and 3 am under the jurisdiction of the Upparpet police station.“The accused approached Devi on a two-wheeler and demanded Rs 200. When she refused and resisted, he allegedly attacked her on the head with a dagger,” the DCP said.Gautham then allegedly snatched Devi’s purse and mobile phone and stabbed her multiple times before fleeing the spot on his two-wheeler. Devi sustained severe injuries and collapsed at the scene. She died shortly after, the police said.During interrogation, Gautham allegedly told the police that he was under the influence of alcohol and had gone to the area with the intention of committing a robbery.Based on a complaint filed by an associate of Devi who was present nearby, the Upparpet police station has registered a murder case.Story continues below this adThe police said they are also investigating whether the accused was previously involved in any other robbery cases reported in the city.
