Palace are open to selling Mateta but want £40million for a player who has hit double figures in the Premier League in each of the past three seasons. Mateta has entered the final year of his contract, while Palace have a separate issue with their attacking midfielder Ismaïla Sarr, who wants to move to Galatasaray. Villa have also held talks about signing the striker Nicolas Jackson, but they would have to buy him as Premier League rules do not allow for more than one loan between the same clubs and Villa have already taken Alejandro Garnacho for the season from Chelsea.
