Talk about putting a damper on the weekend. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Toronto, saying we could see heavy rain over the next few days, with local amounts possibly exceeding 50 mm in some areas.CityNews Chief Meteorologist Natasha Ramsahai says we could see two rounds of possible thunderstorms in Toronto on Saturday, with the first one around 8:00 a.m., followed by a second sometime between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.“The rain is highly localized,” she adds. “Some areas could get 5 mm, others could see upwards of 50-plus mm, especially around cottage country and higher elevations down through southwestern Ontario.”Ramsahai says the heaviest rain will hit Toronto Saturday through the afternoon and evening.“This is going to be an unsettled weekend, much cooler for Sunday and Monday, temperatures will rebound though once again next week.”Environment Canada also notes there’s “considerable uncertainty as to exactly which areas will receive the highest rainfall amounts.”The agency warns that the hardest hit areas could experience flooding.“Don’t drive through flooded roadways,” it advises. “Avoid low-lying areas. Watch for washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.”
