Marshall Alenyo, Jonam county MP, has asked parliament to speed up efforts to improve infrastructure in West Nile. Alenyo made the plea on the floor of parliament on August 17, during which he noted that the Pakwach-Nebbi highway needs revamping to foster economic growth in the region.“If this road is made, the people of Jonam will be able to sell onang-nang in Fataki. We shall be able to sell onang-nang in Embokolo, and our economy will rise,” he said.He also revealed that the major health centre IV in Pakwach does not have a mortuary nor an ambulance.“It is also troubling that the health centre IV does not have a male ward. Mr Speaker, if you are to fall sick now in Pakwach, you will share a ward with the females. That is the scandal of the Pakwach health center IV. We need a serious health centre,” he noted.Alenyo further implored parliament to look into the issue of the Jonam people and their frustrations with Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA).“UWA has been a neighbour of the Jonam for so long. The Jonam gave their lands to the national park…the Pakuba safari lodge was Rotkuba’s palace. Even Paraa safari lodge was part of Jonam lands. But it bothers us that when the national park was created, the animals are respected more than the Jonam people,” he added. On the issue of sports, he called for the establishment of a national-level stadium in the West Nile region.“Recently, young stars from Pakwach qualified for the top league. But for us as West Nile, we don’t have a national stadium. Moses Ali was one-time the president of Fufa and there is no better way to honour his legacy than putting up a national-level stadium in West Nile so that our talents can grow.” The post Jonam MP rallies parliament to improve West Nile infrastructure appeared first on The Observer Media Ltd.
