John Carpenter’s original 1978 slasher classic Halloween has already gone under the knife once — in 2007 with Rob Zombie’s remake. That film also got a sequel in 2009 (which was essentially a reboot of 1981’s Halloween II). But most fans would rather forget those two films ever existed. The 2007 remake hardly wiped the slate clean for the franchise, either. After the 2009 sequel, the film series reverted to the original film’s continuity with the Blumhouse/David Gordon Green trilogy, which included Halloween (2018), Halloween Kills (2021), and Halloween Ends (2022).But that was hardly the first time a Halloween film chose to ignore several sequels — the first to do that was Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998). The truth is that this franchise will always be anchored to Carpenter’s original film, and another upcoming remake proves that once again.Credit: Miramax / Blumhouse Productions / Universal PicturesHalloween Remake Is ComingHalloween: The Game, the asymmetrical title that arrives on September 8 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store), takes place just before and during the events of the original Halloween, offering fans a completely new way to experience Haddonfield on October 31, 1978 — “the night he came home” to stalk unsuspecting babysitters. With several sandbox environments on offer, from Haddonfield Heights to Haddonfield Town Center, players can take on the role as one of the neighborhood’s many civilian characters dubbed “Haddonfield Heroes” (including Laurie Strode, voiced by Chelsea Krause), or play as franchise bogeyman Michael Myers himself (performed in motion capture by original actor Nick Castle and actor/stuntman TJ Storm) either online or in an offline campaign mode.Credit: IllfonicRelated: ‘Halloween’ Removes Multiple Films From the Franchise, Digitally Alters 1978 OriginalThe game also features other characters from the original film, including Bob Simms (Nicholas Leung), Lynda van der Klok (Angela Carbone), Annie Brackett (Kaitlyn Robrock), and Dr. Samuel Loomis (Colin Mahan). But one of the most exciting parts of the game is how it recreates several scenes from the 1978 film, from Michael’s escape from Smith’s Grove Sanitarium to events inspired by the original film, as showcased in the official single-player story trailer below.Related: Confirmed: Upcoming ‘Halloween’ Reboot Officially BannedIn addition to the game, Daily Dead has now announced Halloween: The Game Comic from IllComic (an arm of the game’s developer IllFonic) and PANICK Entertainment. The title “takes readers back to the terrifying events surrounding Halloween 1978, offering a new story featuring Michael Myers at his most relentless.”Written by Hans Rodionoff and Adam F.
