The Ministry of Education and Sports has announced 35 scholarship opportunities for Ugandan students seeking to pursue Master’s and PhD studies at universities in the United Kingdom for the 2027/2028 academic year.The scholarships are being offered under the UK Commonwealth Scholarships programme, with opportunities available across health sciences, agriculture, engineering, natural sciences, computer science, sports sciences and other specialised fields.According to the announcement, 15 PhD scholarships and 20 Master’s scholarships are available, bringing the total number of slots to 35.PhD scholarshipsThe PhD opportunities have been allocated across five fields:Health Sciences – Neurology, Dermatology, Oncology and Paediatrics: 4 slotsAgricultural Sciences – Agricultural Extension, Agricultural Agronomics, Soil Science or Animal Sciences: 3 slotsEngineering Sciences – Mechanical, Architecture, Electrical or Water Engineering: 4 slotsNatural Sciences – Physics, Biology, Chemistry or Environmental Sciences: 3 slotsSports Sciences – 1 slotApplicants for the PhD scholarships must hold a Master’s degree in a relevant field from a recognised university or institution and should have a research supervisor from a recognised UK university.Master’s scholarshipsA total of 20 slots are available at Master’s level in the following areas:Health Sciences – Cardiology, Neurology, Gynaecology, Pathology, Psychiatry and Paediatrics: 4 slotsAgricultural Sciences – Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Biotechnology, Soil Science or Agribusiness: 4 slotsEngineering Sciences – Mechanical, Civil, Electrical or Transportation Engineering: 5 slotsComputer Sciences – Cybersecurity, Computer Forensics, Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence: 4 slotsInternational Relations, Public Policy or Climate Change – 3 slotsApplicants seeking Master’s scholarships must hold an undergraduate degree in a relevant field from a recognised university or institution, have attained a minimum CGPA of 3.60, and possess at least two years of work experience at the time of application.Applicants with foreign qualifications are required to have their academic documents equated by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).Application deadlineThe Ministry has set Friday, September 17, 2026, at 5:00pm as the deadline for submission of applications.The completed application form, together with supporting documents, can be emailed to scholarships@education.go.ug or submitted physically to the Secretary, Central Scholarships Committee, Ministry of Education and Sports.Applicants are required to provide details including their name, age, sex, course, home district, telephone contact and email address, alongside photocopies of academic documents and an attached passport photograph.Physical applications should be delivered to the Admissions, Scholarship and Students Affairs office, 3rd Floor, Wing A, Legacy Towers, Room 9 or 15, Kyadondo Road, Kampala.The Ministry said the shortlist will be displayed on its website and on the notice boards at Legacy Towers on Friday, September 25, 2026.The application form can be obtained from the Ministry of Education and Sports website.Prospective applicants are encouraged to carefully check the eligibility requirements and submit their applications before the September 17 deadline.The post Uganda Opens Applications for 35 UK Commonwealth Scholarships for 2027/28 was written by the awesome team at Campus Bee.
