The New European Bauhaus (NEB) is a European Union initiative that combines sustainability, aesthetics and social inclusion to create better places for people to live, work and connect.Through Horizon Europe, the EU’s flagship research and innovation programme, individuals and organisations can contribute to this vision. As a cross-cutting priority within Horizon Europe, NEB supports projects that bring together research, innovation, culture, architecture, design, technology and citizen engagement.Participation is open to a wide range of stakeholders, including universities, research institutes, public authorities, businesses, start-ups, creative professionals, NGOs and community organisations. Funding opportunities cover areas such as sustainable construction, circular economy, climate-neutral cities, cultural heritage, digital innovation and citizen participation. One of the main ways to get involved is by joining a consortium preparing a Horizon Europe proposal.Networking plays an important role, attending brokerage events, information days and NEB community activities provide opportunities to connect with potential partners. The Horizon Europe National Contact Points within Xjenza Malta offer guidance, support and can also assist in finding project partners.Currently, EUR 101.1 million is available for New European Bauhaus-related Horizon Europe calls, closing on 1st December 2026. Additional opportunities are expected in 2027. Xjenza Malta further supports access to these funds through incentives such as the “HIPAS support scheme” which provides Malta based organisations that wish to lead a Horizon Europe NEB proposal to secure up to EUR 8,000 for proposal writing assistance. The NEB Community Platform and NEB Junction also help organisations exchange ideas and find potential collaborators.Other initiatives such as the EIT Community New European Bauhaus (NEB) also support local projects that reflect NEB values of sustainability, inclusivity and beauty.Current opportunities include:Connect NEB – grants of up to EUR 18,000 for community-led initiatives, experimentation and participatory approaches.Co-create NEB – grants of up to EUR 49,300 for partnerships delivering place-based transformations in public spaces. Both EIT Community NEB calls close on 30th September 2026.Tamara Schembri is the New European Bauhaus National Contact Point at Xjenza Malta, contact her on tamara.b.schembri@gov.mt to learn more!Share this with someone who would be interested to know•
