Yorgen Fenech had access to a “top secret” Europol report containing a list of people and details about their alleged roles in the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia, a court heard.The report emerged on day 47 of the trial against the Tumas heir, as prosecutor Godwin Cini questioned Fenech over an image recovered during the extraction of data from his phone.Cini said the image showed a list of people and their alleged involvement in the assassination, describing those named as individuals “renowned in the Maltese criminal sphere” and referring to the list as identifying the “executioners”.Among the names on the list were Robert Agius, Adrian Agius “tal-Maksar”, Jamie Vella, George Degiorgio, Alfred Degiorgio, Vince Muscat, Kevin Falzon, David Gatt, Ramon Guzman and Aaron Cassar.Lawyer David Gatt was described on the list as having provided “general advice”.Cini questioned Fenech on why the list had been kept on his phone.“I don’t know,” Fenech replied.When Cini pressed him on why he had saved it, Fenech questioned whether he had done so himself.“But did I actually save the list? I don’t know,” he said.Asked how the document had ended up on his phone, Fenech said he believed former OPM chief of staff Keith Schembri had sent it to him.Cini then questioned Fenech specifically about how he had come into possession of what he described as the “Top Secret” Europol report, which contained the names and details of their alleged involvement in the assassination.Fenech said he did not know where the report had originally come from, but insisted that it had been sent to him by Schembri.The image of the report was subsequently recovered by investigators during the extraction of the contents of Fenech’s phone.Follow the Lovin Malta live blog for updates as they happen.•
