The opening weekend has already given us plenty to think about, but there’s little time to dwell on those results as the Premier League moves into its second round of fixtures.From Manchester City’s trip to Selhurst Park and Spurs facing Newcastle to Arsenal heading to Villa Park, there are some intriguing games ahead.Here are my predictions for the weekend.Palace 0-1 Man CityI believe in sport success can be decided by the smallest details, so take into account what a massive moment the last few minutes at the Etihad on Sunday were for Maresca.He was seconds away from a massive spotlight being on him all week. Instead, he got away with overcomplicating his team selection, and it will be interesting if he tries those tactics again.Selhurst Park can be a tricky ground to go to, but maybe Friday night is a good time to get this fixture out of the way?As I write this, it’s not clear if Sarr is simply injured or has gone AWOL to force a move to Galatasaray.With the tax laws, I can understand why Turkey appeals to many players, but surely the 28-year-old would have interest elsewhere in England.It’s also not ideal when your striker is trying to prove legally that the last year of his contract is invalid.Mateta and Sarr leaving could be the difference between the Eagles battling relegation or not, although so could keeping two unhappy players.Liverpool 3-1 N ForestTwo new managers who are insisting it will take time for their respective squads to learn and be physically able to handle their ethos.To paraphrase Oliver Glasner, he’s adamant that after two defeats to Leeds, Forest cannot expect a quick fix, even though he saw signs that players were understanding his principles.Someone needs to tell the Austrian it’s not the fans at the City Ground he needs to convince to be patient; it’s their owner.As for Liverpool, quite simply, these are the kind of games at Anfield they were not winning last season.Cherries 1-0 EvertonThe Cherries were so close to their first-ever win in the Prem at the Etihad.Marco Rose will take plenty of positives from the game; his only disappointment will be that the goals they conceded were soft. It’s not like Man City were knocking down the door.Play like that on Saturday and the German will get his first points.Coventry 2-1 HullThe best chance a promoted team has of avoiding relegation is getting points on the board early, so this is a golden opportunity for Hull.If they didn’t sit back against Man United, there would be no reason to think they will on Saturday.Coventry are not going to let one bad night at the Emirates ruin their special day this weekend, hosting Premier League football for the first time since 2001.Spurs 2-1 NewcastleBecause of the manner of the Brentford defeat, it’s already a massive game for De Zerbi.Spurs continue to spend so much money yet started the campaign with the same old story.You would feel sorry for their fanbase if they had been more humble during the summer. I have heard their supporters make some crazy predictions without a ball being kicked.For nearly two years, their fans have pointed to injuries as the reason for consecutive 17th-place finishes.Last Saturday, even their manager was saying physically his team wasn’t ready because many either were not fit or had been at the World Cup.Reminder: Tottenham chose to have their pre-season in New Zealand and Australia!!!!Chelsea 3-2 BrightonMonday showed why Chelsea can challenge for the title but ultimately why they might not have enough to get over the line.An attack of Palmer, Rodgers and Pedro might be as good as any in the division, meaning Arsenal are taking a gamble if they let Martinelli leave without a replacement lined up.Unless they sign another defender or keeper, though, they won’t have enough.Will be entertaining to watch, though.Leeds 1-0 BrentfordBoth won their opening Premiership games last weekend as well as qualifying in the Carabao Cup.Yet Leeds will defend a lot better than Spurs did. Daniel Farke has built a team who can stay in a game, be hard to break down and then be clinical.Sunderland 1-1 FulhamA lot within the football community have suggested both these clubs could struggle to maintain the standards they set last campaign.Fulham, though, ended last season without a win in their last 11 games, so I’m tempted to go for home advantage but will go for a draw.Man United 3-2 IpswichThe narrative over Michael Carrick always was that being full-time Man United manager was going to be trickier than being caretaker boss. They are almost two different jobs.Starting the season against two newly promoted sides gave him a golden opportunity to fly out of the traps, but it also puts massive pressure on him if it goes wrong.It already did at Hull, with the most worrying aspect being that too many of his players played like they thought they just had to show up.After that experience, no excuse to take Sunday for granted.(Photo by Julian Finney/Getty Images)Villa 1-3 ArsenalSport can be about timings and luck that you can’t control, such as the calendar.You’d rather this fixture be early in the season than a few months later when essentially a new squad has had a chance to settle.That’s not to say Monday will be easy; Unai Emery would be unlucky to ever concede goals again in the manner his side did at Brighton.
