Middlesbrough has already added two American players to its roster this summer and is reportedly close to acquiring a third. Rokas Pukstas is nearing a deal to join Middlesbrough from Croatian side Hajduk Split, Teesside Live reported Wednesday. The American midfielder will cost Middlesbrough over $5 million in transfer fees as Pukstas is in the final year of his contract, according to the report. Hull City, Birmingham City, and Samsunspor were among several clubs interested in Pukstas this summer, but it looks like Kim Hellberg’s squad have won the race for his signature. Pukstas, 22, is in his fifth full season with Hajduk Split after previously spending time in the Sporting KC academy ranks. The Oklahoma native delivered a career-best 10 goals last season and already scored three goals in nine appearances this campaign. Pukstas has totaled 27 goals and six assists in 141 appearances for Hajduk Split to date. He remains a top prospect for the U.S. Men’s National Team after previously playing for the Under-20’s, U-21’s and U-23’s. Middlesbrough added fellow Americans Sebastian Berhalter and Max Arfsten earlier this summer from MLS and already had Aidan Morris in its ranks since 2024. Hellberg’s squad lost in the EFL Championship promotion playoff final last May and has already begin its new league campaign this summer. Middlesbrough recently advanced to the EFL Cup third round after defeating Doncaster Rovers 3-1 on Tuesday. They will continue league action on Saturday against West Bromwich Albion.
