Gaviyappa on Sunday performed the bhoomi puja for development works worth ₹8.62 crore aimed at strengthening educational, residential and drinking water infrastructure in Hosapete.The works include construction of a post-matric girls hostel at Jambunathanahalli and an overhead water tank with a pipeline network under the Amrit Nagarothana scheme.The post-matric girls hostel for students belonging to the Scheduled Tribes community will be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹4.55 crore at Jambunathanahalli.The 14,000 sq ft facility is expected to provide accommodation to 150 students. The MLA said that the hostel will provide safe and better accommodation to girl students coming from distant areas to pursue their education. The work is expected to be completed within a year.Mr. Gaviyappa also performed the bhoomi puja for the construction of a 10 lakh litres capacity overhead water tank at Balaji Nagar and the laying of a 250 mm diameter ductile iron (DI) pipeline to improve drinking water supply in Hosapete.The cost of the project being taken up under the Amrit Nagarothana scheme has an estimated at ₹2.04 crore. It is expected to be completed within one-and-a-half years.He said that steps will also be taken to construct another water tank and a community hall at Eshwar Nagar in Akashavani Layout.He will discuss the proposal with Ministers concerned. Bhoomi puja will be performed soon under the leadership of Minister K.S. Basavanthappa, he added.The proposed works will further improve drinking water supply to residents of different localities in the city, Mr. Gaviyappa said.District hospitalMr. Gaviyappa said that efforts are under way to get the new District Hospital inaugurated in the first week of October.As much as 40%-50% of equipment required for the hospital have already arrived, while the remaining equipment and furniture are expected to be supplied in September. The necessary staff will initially be appointed from among the sanctioned posts, he said.He also said that an additional 100 beds will be added to the hospital at a cost of ₹20 crore, taking its capacity to 400 beds.Considering the availability of more than 600 beds, including those at the city hospital and maternity hospital, a proposal will be submitted for establishing a medical college in Hosapete, he said.Bagina at TB damWith the Tungabhadra reservoir nearing full capacity, a programme will be organised next week to offer bagina, Mr. Gaviyappa said.He expressed the confidence that there will be no shortage of water for the second crop this year, given the good quantum of inflow at the reservoir from the Bhadra and the Tunga rivers.Urban Development Authority chairman H.N.M. Imam Niazi, City Municipal Council president N.
