EPCOT is going through another round of changes, and this time, the work is happening in the middle of World Showcase.Guests visiting the Germany Pavilion have likely noticed construction walls, scrims, and closures around several familiar areas. While this project isn’t on the same scale as a brand-new attraction, Disney is giving part of the pavilion a much-needed refresh.That work has already resulted in a noticeable replacement, with old roofing coming down and new shingles taking its place. At the same time, one guest facility remains unavailable as construction continues.Credit: princesskoko, FlickrAnd while this is a relatively small EPCOT refurbishment, much bigger changes are waiting in the wings.Disney Replaces Roofing Across Germany PavilionOne of the biggest visible changes involves the buildings surrounding the Germany Pavilion.Das Kaufhaus has been undergoing an exterior refurbishment for roughly a month. Crews have now replaced the old roofing with new red-and-brown diamond-pattern shingles. Other buildings throughout the pavilion are receiving similar treatment, with some sections still hidden behind brown scrim while others appear finished.The replacement appears to have come at a good time.Before crews started installing the new shingles, several roofs showed signs of rot and damage. That condition was likely a major reason Disney moved forward with the extensive roofing work across multiple Germany Pavilion buildings.Although roofing probably isn’t the most exciting construction project happening at Walt Disney World, these kinds of refurbishments are important. World Showcase relies heavily on its architecture and detailed environments, and maintaining those buildings helps preserve the atmosphere that makes each pavilion feel distinct.EPCOT Closure Continues During RefurbishmentThe roofing isn’t the only project affecting the Germany Pavilion.Stein Haus has also been undergoing exterior refurbishment since late June. Disney installed rolling planters before adding beige scrim walls around the area. Meanwhile, crews have carried out shorter interior renovations at several gift shops.Volkunst Clocks and Crafts remains closed, while Weinkeller continues operating. However, the ongoing exterior construction has changed the normal flow through the area, with guests being redirected to exit through Stein Haus.There’s another closure guests should know about as well.The Germany Pavilion restrooms have remained closed since the middle of July. Construction walls continue to surround the area, and no reopening date was included in the latest update.Interestingly, Disney has also refreshed the Germany Train Garden. Recent additions include Snow White’s cottage and a reference to Dreamfinder.That Dreamfinder reference comes at an especially interesting time, considering what Disney has already confirmed for EPCOT’s future.Credit: Gary Todd, FlickrMuch Bigger EPCOT Changes Are ComingRoof replacements and exterior refurbishments may be what guests can see happening right now, but EPCOT has much larger projects on the horizon.One of the biggest involves Spaceship Earth.Disney has confirmed plans for a major overhaul of the attraction inside EPCOT’s iconic geodesic sphere. Spaceship Earth has been one of the park’s defining attractions since EPCOT opened in 1982, but the experience has gone years without the kind of substantial modernization many fans have been waiting to see.Disney hasn’t announced a specific closure date for the upcoming project, meaning guests still don’t know exactly when the overhaul will begin or how long Spaceship Earth could remain unavailable.Still, it represents one of the most important future projects planned for EPCOT.And it won’t be the only classic attraction receiving attention.Dreamfinder Is Returning to FigmentDisney has also confirmed that Dreamfinder will return as part of the future of Journey Into Imagination with Figment.For longtime EPCOT fans, that’s a major announcement.Dreamfinder played an important role in the original Journey Into Imagination, which opened in 1983. The character and Figment became two of EPCOT’s most recognizable creations, but Dreamfinder disappeared from the attraction as Disney transformed the pavilion over the years.Now, Disney is preparing to bring him back.Just like Spaceship Earth, however, there are still major questions surrounding the timeline. Disney hasn’t announced when work on the Figment attraction will begin or when guests could experience the updated version.Based on the projects Disney has announced, we expect Spaceship Earth to undergo its overhaul first, with the Figment project following afterward. Until Disney releases an official construction schedule, though, the exact order and timing remain subject to change.Credit: DisneyEPCOT Continues to EvolveFor now, the Germany Pavilion offers one of the clearest examples of EPCOT’s ongoing refurbishment work.Guests are already seeing fresh roofing replace damaged and aging sections across several buildings. Other areas remain behind construction barriers, and the pavilion’s restroom closure continues as work moves forward.Those projects may seem small compared to an attraction overhaul, but they’re part of the constant maintenance required to keep a park as large and detailed as EPCOT operating.Soon enough, however, attention could shift toward projects with a much bigger impact on a typical EPCOT day.Spaceship Earth is heading toward a major overhaul, while Dreamfinder is officially preparing for a return alongside Figment.
